About Lakes Literacy

Lakes District Literacy Now Task Force (Lakes Literacy) serves the communities of the Lakes District, BC.  Our purpose is to promote literacy and lifelong learning throughout the Lakes District. We are a group of community partners who work together to coordinate a number of literacy programs, as well as access funds to develop, maintain and expand literacy initiatives. Lakes Literacy is supported by Decoda Literacy Solutions. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.

We respectfully acknowledge that our organization works within the traditional and unceded territories of the six First Nations of this region: Ts’il Kaz Koh First Nation, Lake Babine Nation, Skin Tyee Nation, Cheslatta Carrier Nation, Nee Tahi Buhn Band, and Wet’suwet’en First Nation.

Literacy Outreach Coordination

With financial support from the Province of British Columbia, Decoda Literacy Solutions partners with community literacy task forces and local steward organizations to support the work of Literacy Outreach Coordinators throughout the Province. In Burns Lake, a part-time contract position is supported with these funds to coordinate literacy programs locally. New initiatives and partnerships are continually being developed, and Lakes Literacy is grateful for the support of local organizations and businesses to provide project funding.

We would like to thank School District 91 for acting as the steward organization for literacy outreach in our region. School District 91 staff support Lakes Literacy (Lakes District Literacy Task Force) with in-kind contributions of administrative/budget oversight and the use of our literacy room in Muriel Mould Neighborhood Learning Centre.
