StoryWalk®

In recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Week, a StoryWalk® featuring Shi-shi-etko by Nicola I. Campbell will be featured at Spirit Square park in Burns Lake from September 25-October 2.

Shi-shi-etko is a young Indigenous girl whose name means “she loves to play in the water.” This beautifully illustrated book tells the story of Shi-shi-etko’s final days before she will travel to residential school.

It is a gentle and moving story of the loving families, close-knit communities and beautiful lives Indigenous children like Shi-shi-etko were forced to leave behind to attend residential schools. We hope this StoryWalk® provides an opportunity for community members of all backgrounds to reflect on Truth and Reconciliation throughout the week. It will remain installed during the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation event hosted by Burns Lake Native Development Corporation at Spirit Square on September 30 🧡

As always, we thank our StoryWalk® partners in Burns Lake:

🧡 Burns Lake Public Library for providing printing and laminating

🧡 Bulkley Valley Credit Union for their financial support

🧡 Village of Burns Lake Recreation for welcoming StoryWalks® at Spirit Square
