    Gift of Giving to Seniors

    🎄Our 4th Annual Gift of Giving Christmas Card Campaign is set to begin on December 1! 🎄

    We invite community members of all ages to participate:

    ✨Write a Christmas card, letter, or create a piece of artwork for Seniors/Elders living in Tweedsmuir House, Carroll Cottage, Heritage Manor, or the Pines;

    ✨ Drop off your creations between December 1 and 15 in the decorated collection boxes at either Burns Lake Public Library or Bulkley Valley Credit Union (Lakeview Mall, Burns Lake);

    ✨Lakes Literacy will deliver specially made packages of greetings to each location before Christmas!

    Last year, we collected over 400 cards, letters, and works of art during this campaign! Do you think we can exceed that this year?

    Practice those important letter & card writing skills and spread some kindness this holiday season 💌

  • Literacy Task Force

    Lakes Literacy is a driving force for literacy in Burns Lake & the Lakes District. Our Task Force is always welcoming new community members to join us!

    What does the Task Force do?

    ⭐ We are a group of community partners who work together to develop and coordinate initiatives that promote literacy and lifelong learning in our local community.

    ⭐ We collaborate with Burns Lake’s Literacy Outreach Coordinator to provide direction on projects and initiatives.

    ⭐ We coordinate local initiatives like: StoryWalks, Imagination Library, Community Bookshelves, and up until its recent retirement, the Words on Wheels (W.O.W.) Bus!

    ⭐ We also support other organizations in their literacy programming, such as Family Literacy Week and Summer Reading Club, coordinated by Burns Lake Public Library.

    ⭐ Lakes Literacy is supported by Decoda Literacy Solutions. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.

    What is the commitment?

    ⭐ We meet approximately three times per year in Burns Lake. Our next meeting is taking place on October 27 at 10am at Burns Lake Public Library’s MPR.
